§ 17.56.160. Sign standards in the business (B General Business) zone.
The following shall apply to signs in B General Business zoned properties:
A.
The following sign types are permitted:
1.
Awning/canopy signs;
2.
Banners, in accordance with Section 17.56.180.B 'Banners';
3.
Construction signs;
4.
Directory Signs;
5.
Flags;
6.
Monument signs;
7.
Projecting signs;
8.
Public interest signs;
9.
Real estate signs;
10.
Sandwich signs, in accordance with 17.56.180.C 'Temporary Signs';
11.
Subdivision identification signs;
12.
Temporary signs for nonresidential uses in accordance with Section 17.56.180 'Temporary Signs';
13.
Time-temperature-date signs;
14.
Under awning/canopy signs;
15.
Attached/Wall signs;
16.
Window signs;
B.
The maximum area per sign face shall be:
1.
For monument signs, eighty (80) square feet;
2.
For directory signs, eighty (80) square feet;
3.
For attached/wall signs, one square foot for every one foot of building frontage length of the wall in accordance with Section 17.56.020 'Definitions';
4.
For window signs, fifty (50) percent of the window area in accordance with Section 17.56.020 'Definitions';
5.
For under awning/canopy signs, six square feet;
6.
For subdivision identification signs, thirty-two (32) square feet;
7.
For flags, sixty (60) square feet. Corporate flags shall be counted in the calculation for total freestanding signage; government flags shall not be counted in total site signage;
8.
For projecting signs, ten (10) square feet in accordance with Section 17.56.020 'Definitions';
9.
For sandwich signs, nine square feet.
C.
The following maximum sign heights are permitted:
1.
For monument signs, eight feet;
2.
For directory signs, eight feet;
3.
For attached/wall signs, the sign shall not be mounted above the parapet;
4.
For under awning/canopy signs, a minimum of eight feet from ground level to the bottom of the sign and the height of the letters shall be a maximum of eighteen (18) inches tall;
5.
For subdivision identification signs, eight feet;
6.
For flagpoles, thirty-five (35) feet;
7.
For projecting signs, a minimum of eight feet and a maximum of thirteen (13) feet between the ground and the sign in accordance with Section 17.56.020 'Definitions'
8.
For sandwich signs, three feet.
D.
The following minimum setbacks are required:
1.
Monument signs may have a zero-foot setback outside of the visibility triangle;
2.
Directory signs may have a zero foot setback outside of the visibility triangle;
3.
The minimum setback for flagpoles shall be five feet;
4.
All signs must be set back a minimum of five feet from any residential area;
5.
Subdivision identification signs are allowed a zero-foot setback outside of the visibility triangle.
E.
Subdivision identification signs up to thirty-two (32) square feet are allowed with a zero-foot setback outside of the visibility triangle at major entrances to subdivisions, neighborhood/villages, and office/business parks.
1.
Planning Staff may approve up to a twenty-five (25) percent increase in total sign area if the sign is part of an architecturally designed entrance feature which includes walls, upgraded landscaping, hardscape, lighting, etc., in a cohesive manner so as to provide an aesthetically pleasing feature for the subdivision entrance.
F.
The following signs are allowed for a single-tenant building:
1.
Real estate signs—One per building;
2.
Construction signs—One per building;
3.
Time-temperature-date signs—One per building;
4.
Flags and flagpoles—One U.S. flag, one state flag, and one corporate flag; (except that a corporate flag counts as a freestanding sign).
5.
Temporary signs—(See Section 17.56.180 'Temporary Signs');
6.
Under awning/canopy signs—One per business.
G.
The following signs are allowed for a multi-tenant building:
1.
Real estate signs—One per building;
2.
Construction signs—One per building;
3.
Time-temperature-date signs—One per building;
4.
Subdivision identification signs—One per major entrance from a public right-of-way;
5.
Flags and flagpoles—One U.S. flag, one state flag, and one corporate flag; (except that a corporate flag counts as a freestanding sign).
6.
Directory signs—One per building;
7.
Temporary signs—(See Section 17.56.180 'Temporary Signs');
8.
Under awning/canopy signs—One per business.
